Education and school facilities
Education
ChuayDek undertakes to bring more access to education for children in need and their community at large and to improve school facilities where needed. Some of our achievements are reported in the paragraphs below.
As part of its support to the Buddha Kasettra School, ChuayDek also helps the teachers drafting project proposals to various supporters and donors (NGO, private sector, groups, etc). See the list approved projects for the "Education and school facilities" work area

Scholarships and prizes
We hand-over small prizes to well-deserving kids to encourage them to study harder during the year, scholarships and education fund to help young boys and girls to acces high-school and secondary education. We also fund study tours and visits outside the school, for the kids to learn through first hand experience.
Since 2010 we handed over prices and incentives for 20 deserving kids. In 2012 five girls and boys received scholarships to attend high-school for one year (2012-2013).

Sharing of knowledge: traditional curriculum, environment and more
ChuayDek is also trying to bring knowledge on environmental education, organic farming, micro-business, photography to children and teachers - mainly thanks to knowledgeable volunteers.
Read more on the ongoing project "Food and knowledge, today and for the future", helping the teachers, children and their families to learn how to use the organic rice and vegetables they farm not only as food but also as source of income.

First hand experience: study tour 2012 and day tripsFebruary 2012: a once in a lifetime experience for 30 children! We sponsored a 7 days study tour, bringing the kids from Khun Yoam - North of Thailand - to Bangkok and the beach, which they saw for the first time in their life! A "Ridge to Reef" experience, which the kids will bring in the memories for the rest of their life, a mix of culture, science, literature and nature. Visit the photostory or the photo-diary.
We also sponsored day trips for the children to enjoy the wonderful surroundings in Mae Hong Song and Chiang Mai provinces, in January and July 2011 |
School facilities improvements
It is common knowledge also that children study with more enthusiasm if they have nice and comfortable infrastructures and - mainly in collaboration with donors who have experience in this sector - we are supporting the BuddhaKasettra School in improving their buildings, their class-rooms, dormitories and bathrooms, to give the children of the School a comfortable environment where to live and study.
Classrooms for music and art & fixing of the rice storage room
In 2010 and 2011 ChuayDek helped the school to finalize the construction of classrooms to be used mainly for music and art crafts. When thanking us one of the children said that without our help he did not know if those classrooms would have ever been finalized. The finalization of the building was possible thanks to voluntary donations of group of friends.
The roof of the rice storage room was replaced to avoid water to enter in the room and ruin the stock of rice that will feed the kids. Sponsored by 1% for development fund. Read more |
